My research question is why do fraternities haze and if the process and rituals are not unknown from anyone why do pledges get themselves into it ? I am using sources that first set up my paper talking about the general rituals and hazing stories that shows the negative consequences of hazing. Google.news provided me with the recnt story of six girls from sigma gamma Rho at Rutgers getting arrested for hazing their pledges and being responsible for sending one of their pledges to the hospital. Also, the article 'Black greek deathwatch' and the the book ' Wrongs of passage', portrays the risks and dangers involved in the unnecessary ritual of hazing which often damages the mental and physical health of the pledges of fraternities and sororities. On the other hand, grandillo Michael reveals the benefits involved in a fraternity and answers my question of why people decided to join fraternities even though they know the hiddden and dark secrets of fraternity and sorority rituals. Also Greek inside univerity. journal reveals the good things that one get from becoming greek and hence Michaela nd this journal provide a counterpoint as well as answers my first question of why do people decide to join a fraternity or a sorority. moreover, Ben O Donell provides a answer to my entire question and helps me formulate my thesis as he talks about in his article how hazing activities are criticized but students still dont hesitate to join a fraternity or sorority because at the end its all worth it and all pledges are allowed to drop anytime they cant bear being hazed during the pledge process therefore for all the risks involved the pledges who chose themselves to pledge and who are adults and have the right to drop out anytime they want shhould be held more responsiblt than the fraternities or sororities and it works both ways the greek organization should haze if done as a tradition or a ritual but not just as asource of entertainment and shouldnt be taken to extremes.

KIMBROUGH, WALTER. "Black Greek Deathwatch." Diverse: Issues in Higher Education 26.26 (2010): 21-. Print. The author ‘s work perfectly relates to my research question. The author provides stories of death after death of Alpha phi Alpha brothers and asks rhetorical question of will we stop the cycle? The author reaches out to administrators and legal systems to control illegal hazing strictly so the innocent deaths of pledges especially in black fraternities can stop. The author provides a supporting viewpoint to my thesis.
Nuwer, Hank. Wrongs of Passage: Fraternities, Sororities, Hazing, and Binge Drinking. Bloomington: Indiana University Press, 1999. Print. The author reveals stories of those killed and injured by fraternity and sorority hazing rituals such as mental and physical abuse, physical torture, beating, drug abuse, alcohol abuse and other harmful activities. This book portrays many interviews of families of those who died due to hazing related activities and provides evidence for my thesis of the harmful consequences of hazing

research question
my research questions are based on hazing in fraternities and sororities in colleges:
1. should colleges be more strict towards hazing and bullying carried on by the greek organizations?
2. If hazing is illegal, how do most greek organizations yet find it easy to haze and torture their pledges.
3. Why do people rush and pledge for fraternities and sororities knowing what they are getting into- hazing, bullying and toture until they cross?
4. Why do greek organizations have such high status while having a bad reputation at the same time?

blog #4 Rutgers Riot
i personally feel this website is very helpful to start you paper. Not just to start it but also to be kept in mind while looking for sources, while citing stuff and also to be kept in mind all way alng the process of writing the paper. i used the sections : Finding sources and identifying citations. it was very helpful as the section ' finding sources' gave an introduction to types of sources and examples ( primary, seconday and tertiary) and also the pros and cons of using each type of source , this is very helpful when it comes to what kind of sources to use when writing your paper. In the other section ' identifying citations' it gave a lot of information about how to cite sources especially differentiating between citing books and journals. it is a great teaching device as it resolves general quesries about writing paper and queries about what kind of sources to use, how to search for them and how to cite them which is basically teaching you how to write your entire paper. i dont know what more can be done to improve it. it is a great teaching device.
questions for librarian
even though i have already had a session with the librarian, i still had three question before i cam into the session that now are resolved:
1. how do u get a book that says checked in? ans. Recall
2. How to figure out where the book is depending the numbers and letters given in the book number under details in iris search? still unresolved
3. what exactly is ezborrow? ans.books that has electronic access
4. is it good or bad to use recent data and articles to write a book? ans. depends on your topic and how much time period do u want in order to narrow your search.
5. what happens after 28 days of keeping a library book with you? do they email you and warn you or just start charging you? ans. if someone recalls the book they ask you to return it but if you still delay then you get charged and warnings and if noone recalls it you can have it until they do the inventory. the library session was def. very useful as it answered most of my questions.

Blog #2: narrowing the the topic search but still unsure...
-well from my last post my topic hasnt changed i know for sure though i want to work on one of these topics but which one will take some time to decide.
- when i googled these topics :
1. For greek life topics i put in college greek life and vaious pillars of fraternities and sororities and the principles came up.
2. for the other topic regarding time management various websites expressing the how tough it is for collge student to magae their time and sites that gives tips to college students to manage their time efficently came up.
- when i used google scholar the results were definetely better than googe.com as it showed a lot of websites with positives and negatives of each topic and greek life is very highly related to alcohol and how good time management leads to good grades. google news is pretty useful as it shows personal stories which could be very useful to use in the paper as evidences. google books was significant too to get useful resources as there are plenty of books that you can get on each topic. youtube was not as interesting as we cannnot use it to quote in papers anyways its good for gaining knowledge but not useful in papers. personally i feel like google news would be most useful as its a really good form to back up my point with eveidences from other people's perosnal stories.
- i got a lot of ideas about greek life after all these searches and it definately narrowed my topic search as i am more lopsided towards writing on the topic of greek life in college as i got a lot of search results showing the negatives of being greek, bad reputation of greeks and positives of being greek and also how hard it is to be a greek and a student
-1)http://www.wcax.com/Global/story.asp?S=11966005: this site was very useful as it portrays the bad rep. of greek life and how most of the drinking goes on on the frat road in most colleges and universities. its a article abouut most parties gettign hosted by greeks on campus.
2)http://njitvector.com/2010/02/10/greek-member-spotlight-ivette-rodriguez/: on the other hand , this site is a personal story of greek and how she reveals that joining a greek organization is not just about being greek it requires a lot of time management and community service and trying to host fundraising activities and a lof of other good stuff.
- yes i found a lot of controversies over my topic through these searches especially because there is a lot of good things involeved and bad things involved in being greek . there is nothing bad in being greek but greeks are supposed to be rolemodels as they do everything there is a minimun gpa requirement , there is mandatory community service events, ther eis mandatory leaderships events on top of that u build friendships and networking . the two sides of the debate can be how to make people acknowledge the good things about the greek life and remove the bad reputation? the only interesting case i found was the link already shown above . its a case of a student who is a greek herself and she talks about how its that easy to just be greek.
-i question myself how i am going to go about this topic because there is a lot of counter arguments that can be made either way.

Blog #1 Topic nmmmm?
Ok, so i registered for this class because it was my last option. I took up the last spot of the class. i feel this class is going to be easy and interesting as we are writing about something we are already related to. i am really confused about what to write for my final paper as there are so many things to write about regarding issues in college. But a few topics that interests me the most would be :
1) Greek life in college : fraternities and sororities definetely make a college life much more interseting. From my personal experience i have loved college evn more after i joined a sorority. you built many friendships and its amazing for netweorking. It is an organization that provides everything: friendships, netwroking, resume buildup, philantropy, fundraising skills. You learn so much about yourself and it is truly a ' home away from home' because you build a circle of brothers /sisters in your university but there is always a issue with being in a fraternity and sorority- the ease to get a bad reputation in eyes of non greek students and also losing old friendships as they get involved with their frat/sorority and build new brotherhoods or sisterhoods.
2)time management issue in college: every college student experiences time management conflicts with their classes and social life and this raises various issues. Some students fail to manage their time efficiently and flunk in school while some only focus on books and fail to have a social collge life.
so these are the two topic i would be interesting in writing about in my final paper since they are very personal to me and they are both topics i can relate to very well hopefully i can decide which one i want to work on soon.
